255/65R17 Tires

Tires are the only part of the vehicle that are actually in contact with the road. As such, purchasing the correct tires is crucial. From tire size all the way to the tire type, drivers have to know what their vehicles need. While many factors depend on what drivers want, tire size does not. To ensure your vehicle’s optimal performance, you need a specific tire size. Every tire has a tire size, which consists of numbers and letters that provide the information you need to know.

255/65R17 Tire Size Explanation

255 - This number represents the tire’s width in millimeters, measured from one shoulder to the other. In this case, the tire’s width is 255 mm (10.04 inches).
65 - The aspect ratio is expressed as a percentage of the tire’s height to its width. A 65-aspect ratio means that the tire’s height is 65% of its width (in this case it is 165.75 mm / 6.53 inches).
R - This indicates that the tire was manufactured with a radial construction, which is the most common tire construction type used today.
17 - This last number denotes the diameter of the wheel in inches. This tire was manufactured to be mounted on 17-inch (431.8 mm) wheels.
