OVERVIEW
The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ ZP is a performance and high performance, all season tire manufactured for passenger vehicles and SUVs.
The tire was designed with Michelin's run flat technology which reinforces the model's sidewalls. This technology enables the tire to withstand the weight of the vehicle and its passengers in case of air pressure loss. The stronger sidewalls allow the tire's limited temporary performance after air pressure leaves the tire. In such cases, the tire can be driven on for 50 miles up to the speed of 50 mph. In this manner, the driver is not stranded on the side of the road, but they can safely arrive to a near-by location to fix or change the tire. These tires cannot be used together with non-run flat models.
The tire was manufactured using a silica-based sunflower oil enriched Helio+ tire compound. This tire compound provides excellent dry, wet and winter weather traction and it enhances the winter weather road gripping ability significantly. The sunflower oil compound increases the winter weather (snow and ice) road grip compared to the Pilot Sport A/S 3 tire model. The asymmetric tread pattern also maintains constant road contact thanks to the Variable Contact Patch 3.0, offering a safer year round driving capability.
The Variable Contact Patch 3.0 also promotes a longer lasting tread life. It prevents irregular wear from forming across the tread area. This is achieved as the technology promotes an optimized tire footprint which equally spreads the driving pressure out across the tread area. The even distribution of the forces of accelerating, cornering and braking prevents irregular tread wear and extends the tire's tread life. As the model has a longer tread life, its usability is increased as well.
The silica-based tire compound increases the braking ability. This compound was derived from Michelin's experiences gathered at the 24 Hours race track of Le Mans. The silica-infused compound spreads the force of braking across the tire footprint and creates friction at the moment of braking to shorten the braking distance. The model also has excellent cornering ability and power. The shoulder tread block features more rubber compound that provides additional biting edges to the tire during cornering and maneuvering. The safer braking and enhanced cornering upgrade the tire's performing capability.
The Total Performance technology was used in the manufacture of the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ ZP. The tire combines year round safety, high speed durability and remarkable fuel efficiency without losing its excellent high speed performing ability. In this manner, the tire is safe to use all year, it maintains its optimal tire shape and lowers the fuel consumption, all while allowing the vehicle to perform to its utmost capability.
