Michelin Alpin A4 ZP
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- Run flat tire model
- Winter weather traction
- High speed controllability
OVERVIEW
The Michelin Alpin A4 ZP is a performance, winter tire manufactured for passenger vehicles.
The tire was designed with the ZP (Zero Pressure) technology, which enables its limited temporary performance in case of air pressure loss. Once air pressure leaves the tire due to a puncture or other damage, the tire can be driven on for 50 miles up to 50 mph. This is enabled by the reinforced polyamide steel belt construction that can withstand the weight of the vehicle and its passengers. After air pressure loss, the tire allows the driver to safely arrive at a nearby location where the tire can be fixed or changed. These tires cannot be used together with regular tires on the same vehicle.
The tread design and the tire compound work together to increase the winter weather traction. The directional tread design's high siping density and the silica-infused, sunflower oil Helio compound improve the ice and snow gripping ability. The Helio compound keeps the tire pliable in colder temperatures, while the siping detail boosts the number of biting edges gripping the ice- and snow-covered road surface. The tread design's angled groove pattern and the siping detail upgrades the hydroplaning resistance by dispersing water and slush from below the tire's footprint. In this manner, the tire ensures a secure winter weather driving experience.
The Alpin A4 ZP improves the controllability. The directional pattern and the strengthened construction optimize the tire's surface contact, which upgrades the steering responsiveness and the driving stability. As a result, the tire upgrades the steering response time and accuracy, while the structure is secured against the driving pressure affecting the model. The detailed siping pattern helps boost the braking ability by creating friction between the tire and the road surface at the moment of braking. This significantly enhances the braking power, which decreases the braking distance. The special polyamide steel belt reinforced construction and silica-based compound enable the tire's high speed performance. The structure does not deform under the high speed driving pressure affecting the models, while the compound prevents heat build-up during the high speed performance. This increases the tire's high speed controllability and maneuvering safety.
