This structure manages to maintain the ideal tire shape under the vehicle's weight in case of air pressure loss. In this manner, the tire can be driven on for 50 miles up to the speed of 50 mph after air pressure leaves the tire, due to a puncture or other damage. This prevents the vehicle from being stranded on the side of the road, enabling them to be driven to a nearby garage. Run flat tires cannot be mixed with regular tires on the same vehicle, due to their heavier internal structure.
