OVERVIEW
The Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT (*) is a high performance, summer tire made for passenger vehicles. This model is the original equipment tire of select BMW vehicles.
The tire has exceptional summer traction and it grips the road well in dry and wet weather thanks to the tread pattern that features slanted-slug shoulder tread block sipes. The tire, however, is not suited to be driven in winter weather as it loses its excellent traction in the colder winter temperatures. The three wide circumferential grooves avoid dangerous hydroplaning by evacuating water from below the tire footprint. As a result, the tire is safe to use in all summer conditions.
This tire is a run flat model, which means that the tire can withstand the weight of the vehicle and its passengers in the case of air pressure loss. After the air pressure leaves the tire, it is capable of temporary mobility for 50 miles at up to a speed of 50 mph. In this way, the driver doesn't get stranded on the side of the road when the tire gets punctured, but can safely drive to a location to repair or change the tire. Run flat tires are made from a heavier material and they cannot be mixed with regular tires.
The tread pattern enhances the braking and steering of the model. The braking power is improved and the braking distance is shortened as the tread pattern and enlarged road contact patch maintain constant contact with the road. The center rib keeps the contact with the road as well and it improves the tire model's handling and steering ability. The steering responsiveness is quick and accurate and it allows the driver to confidently control the tire in dry and wet weather. The high speed capability of the model is increased with its internal structure which features twin steel belts spirally wrapped with nylon cord. This prevents the tire from deforming under the high speed driving pressure.
The Potenza S001 RFT (*) offers a comfortable driving experience. The heat reducing technologies maintain constant contact between the tire and the road, decreasing the road vibrations felt in the cabin of the vehicle.
Manufacturers recommend changing tires every 10 years. As long as tires are properly stored before they are sold, the year of their manufacture will not shorten their service life.
