Presa PI02 Winter Review

Agota Szabo - November 25, 2019

Winter tires come in all shapes and sizes. Passenger vehicles can be easily equipped with winter tires when the colder temperatures hit as winter tires are offered in all passenger sizes. However, the correct winter tire still needs to be chosen to fit your needs.

Here at Priority Tire, we offer a wide range of winter tires fitted for passenger vehicles. In our recent blog posts, we have reviewed versatile winter tires for different brands. Today, we will take a look at the Presa PI02 Winter. This model offers excellent winter traction, controllability and even a comfortable driving experience.

Winter Weather Performance

Studdless winter tires must perform safely on ice- and snow-covered roads. Even without the assistance of studs, such tires have to firmly grip the road surface throughout their performance. Different models utilize versatile tread patterns and winter compound to achieve a secure winter weather performance.

The PI02 Winter is not an exception to this rule. It uses a studdless tread design to ensure constant forward motion. The tread design features a continuous center rib and ideally places shoulder tread blocks that maintain the tire’s surface contact. Furthermore, the tread features a high-density siping detail that enables the tire to increase the number of biting edges gripping the road surface throughout the drive. The tread’s upper sidewall’s detailed siping pattern and tread block design enhances the grip in deeper snow, preventing the tire from being stuck while driving through snow-covered surfaces. The tread’s ideal compound improves the rubber flexibility in colder temperatures. It keeps the tire’s traction in versatile winter conditions, ensuring the model’s safer performance.

The optimized tread design also features four circumferential and numerous angled lateral grooves that enhance the wet and slippery performance. These tread elements actively prevent hydroplaning, which is a dangerous road hazard which happens when water and slush on the road cut off the tire’s surface contact. This causes the vehicle to skid and the driver to lose control over it. The optimal groove placement channels water and slush from the footprint, keeping the tire’s surface contact throughout its performance. They also eliminate snow stuck between the tread elements during the drive. As a result, the tire keeps its contact with the road surface, enabling its excellent driving safety.

Handling and Controllability

Controllability is an important feature of any tire. It determines the driver’s control and maneuvering of the vehicle, as tires are the only link between the road surface and the vehicle. Due to this, manufacturers strive to create tires with exceptional performing abilities in versatile weather conditions.

The PI02 Winter upgrades its handling with its ideal tread design. The symmetric tread design features a continuous center rib that keeps the tire’s road contact throughout its performance. This allows the model to improve the steering responsiveness and the driving stability in this manner. The model becomes faster and more precise in its response to the driver’s steering instructions, while the structure is stabilized against the driving pressure affecting the model. This combination enables the driver’s full control over the vehicle in all winter weather.

The model also improves the braking and cornering ability. The symmetric tread design with the optimally placed tread elements enhances the tire’s maneuvering in this manner. The shoulder tread block placement with its siping detail increases the number of biting edges gripping the road surface during the drive. This enables the tire to improve the cornering ability as the tire enhances the grip on the road surface. The detailed siping pattern also helps improve the braking power. The high-density siping design upgrades the braking ability by creating friction between the tire and the road surface. This shortens the braking distance and offers a secure performing ability.

High Driving Comfort Levels

Road vibrations can dampen the passengers’ driving enjoyment during the vehicle’s performance. With the correct tires, however, these vibrations can be minimized or completely cancelled out, guaranteeing high driving comfort levels.

The PI02 Winter manages to lower the road vibrations felt in the vehicle’s cabin. It utilizes a softer, but still strong, compound that optimizes the surface contact. This closer surface contact allows the tire to absorb the shock of driving while the tires are in motion, significantly lowering the road vibrations felt by the passengers. This upgrades the driving comfort levels during the drive, guaranteeing a comfortable driving experience.
