The tire's reinforced sidewalls are able to supports the weight of the vehicle and passengers temporarily which offers restricted mobility. In other words, after the loss of air pressure the tires can carry the vehicle for 50 miles up to a speed of 50 mph. This allows the driver to get to a safe destination so they will not be stranded on the side of the road. The vehicle needs to be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS, for it to realize that the air pressure is gone from the tire. Otherwise, the driver might surpass the 50-mile limit.
