OVERVIEW
The Mastercraft Glacier-Grip II is a touring, winter tire manufactured for passenger vehicles and SUVs.
The excellent winter weather traction is the result of the tread pattern. The tire was made using the D-Square siping technology which incorporates different depth sipes into the tread design. This high density siping detail firmly grips the road in all winter weather, including when the road surface is covered by snow or ice. The model, however, does not perform well in summer conditions as the tire compound wears excessively in warmer temperatures. The special deep lateral grooves and notched circumferential grooves prevent hydroplaning situations and increase the cold temperature wet weather traction by maintaining road contact.
The model promotes a quiet and comfortable driving experience. The special high density siping design lowers the road noise generated while the tires are in motion. This is achieved as the tread design channels the airwaves through the tire's footprint without letting them come into contact with the tread elements. The result is an enjoyable drive as the road noise is not able to form or be heard in the vehicle's cabin.
The tire's superb handling is due to the tread design as well. The tire maintains its first-rate winter weather traction even when the tread grooves are packed with snow, which allows the tire to maintain constant road contact. The better road contact increases the steering responsiveness and the driving stability. The tire is secured against the driving pressure affecting it, while its steering response to the driver's instructions is swift and precise. The shoulder tread block sequence further boosts the tire's controllability as it increases the cornering and maneuvering ability and power greatly. The additional biting edges they provide for such situations firmly grip the road in all cornering conditions.
The Glacier-Grip II promotes a long lasting tread life. The variable depth siping detail stabilizes the tread elements which prevents tread movement during the drive. The stabilized tread design prevents irregular tread wear from forming across the tread area, which extends the tire's usability and tread life significantly.
