Yokohama Advan Sport A/S Review

Agota Szabo - April 23, 2019

High performance all season tires used to be a rarity on the tire market. High speed models usually only promotes good dry and wet traction, as their primary feature was to withstand the heat of high speed driving. Nowadays, manufacturers are utilizing different technologies to combine high speed performance with a safe all weather road gripping ability, while also maintaining the high safety levels.

Here at Priority Tire we offer a wide range of high performance all season tires for different vehicle applications. One of our most popular passenger vehicle models is Yokohama’s Advan Sport A/S, which provides first-rate high speed performance, superb all weather traction, a lengthened tread life and easy controllability.

High Speed Performance

During the tire’s high speed performance, a lot of external pressure affects its casing. This is when the tire’s durability comes into play. Its structure must withstand the high speed pressure affecting it without allowing the shape to deform.

The Advan Sport A/S features spiral nylon wrap reinforcement on top of its twin steel belt internal structure and an optimized sidewall construction that strengthens the tire’s sidewalls. In this manner, the tire increases its strength and is capable of handling the high speed driving pressure. As the tire’s optimal shape does not deform under the high speed driving pressure, it can perform to its best high speed capability with ease.

Controllability and Maneuvering

A tires controllability is one of its key features. Tires, especially ones designed to perform at high speeds, must be quick and precise in their response to the driver’s instructions as they are the only link between the vehicle and the road surface.

The asymmetric tread design of the Advan Sport A/S optimizes its road contact and traction. The close contact with the road surface improves the tire’s road grip, which enhances its steering responsiveness and driving stability. This ensures a faster and more accurate steering response to the driver’s commands, while it also stabilizes the structure against the driving pressure affecting it. The better controllability enables the driver to confidently steer the vehicle even during its high speed performance in all weather.

The tread pattern’s optimized shoulder tread blocks upgrade the tire’s maneuvering capability. They heighten the number of biting edges gripping the road surface during cornering. The increased biting edges firmly grip the road surface and improve the cornering and maneuvering capability and power throughout the tire’s performance.

All Weather Performance

High performance tires used to only offer good dry and wet traction, but manufacturers started providing the tire market with models that are capable of handling all weather. They improved the tread design and tire compound to cater to the needs of the customers and designed tires that promote high speed performance throughout the year.

The Advan Sport A/S is one such tire. Yokohama improved its compound and asymmetric tread design to enable it to maintain its grip on the road surface in dry, wet and winter weather conditions. The silica-infused polymer compound keeps its flexible traction throughout the year, including in colder temperatures, while the asymmetric tread’s Z-groove pattern increases the number of biting edges gripping the road surface when driving on ice or snow. This combination enables the Advan Sport A/S to securely perform to its best high speed capability in all conditions.

The model’s special circumferential and Z-shaped lateral groove placement also manages to boost its hydroplaning resistance. This groove pattern eliminates slush and water from below the tire’s footprint and maintains the tire’s contact with the road surface at all times. The prevention of hydroplaning upgrades the tire’s wet and winter weather traction and ensures exceptional driving safety.

Lengthened Tread Life

The Advan Sport A/S comes with a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty provided by Yokohama.

The special silica and polymer compound improve the tire’s traction in all weather, which eases the driving pressure off the tire. This allows the tire to evenly distribute the driving pressure along the entire tread area. The equally circulated forces of acceleration, cornering and braking lengthen the tread life by avoiding irregular tread wear formations across the tread area. In this manner, the tire guarantees an extended tread life and usability.
