Timberland is a unique and remarkable company that decided to decrease their effect on the environment. They started out by manufacturing footwear and decided to up their game and create a tire line to provide themselves with the needed recycled materials.

The footwear company Timberland has been in business since 1973. Since then they have been creating boosts for the market, but unlike other major companies, they decided to do something to decrease their carbon footprint.

This environmentally conscious company decided to incorporate recycled materials into their production process and to create the outsoles of the footwear from recycled rubber materials. In 2008 they added an innovative recycled outsole made from crumb rubber from old, worn out tires. This is a good enough move, but they wanted to do more.

In 2010 they managed to develop a recycled rubber outsole compound manufactured with 35% pre-consumer recycled latex, utilizing waste materials. However, they knew the best and more durable recycled materials are made from post-consumer content. Due to this, they wanted to manufacture a tire line specifically made to be reused by them once they are no longer road-worthy.

They partnered with Omni United to manufacture a tire line which can be given a second life. In other words, when the tires wear out, they are recycled into the outsoles of Timberland shoes. The quality standards provided by Omni ensure that Timberland tires have excellent traction, driving comfort, controllability and an overall secure performance throughout their lifetime.

The manufacturing process enables Timberland tires to be the first tire brand made for recycling purposes. They are designed to be recycled into footwear outsoles after their lifetime on the road expires. This decreases the carbon-footprint of the company as it provides the least environmentally polluting way to break down the materials of their old tires.

Not all tires and tire materials are suitable to be recycled, which makes the process of choosing the correct rubber materials so important. By creating a new tire line, Timberland guarantees the most efficient materials are used is the manufacture which makes the tire optimal for recycling.

The Timberland tire brand grew so well in the past couple of years, that they provide tires for most vehicle fitments used in the country. After your purchased tires wear out, Timberland takes the responsibility to recycle them into footwear.

As they say: they reduce your environmental footprint to allow you to make actual footprints on the Modern Trail.
