Kumho Spare T121 Review

Agota Szabo - February 26, 2020

Compact spare tires offer the needed performance once one of the vehicle’s tires gets damaged. When inflated properly, such spares can be driven on up to 50 mph, offering a limited performance with their lightweight construction. Such tires are not made for full performance.

Priority Tire offers temporary spare models for sale. One of our best-selling models is the Kumho Spare T121 which combined all weather traction and controllability to ensure a safer driving experience. While this tire features a smaller physical size and it should not be used for extended periods of time, it still offers a secure drive once the original tire is damaged.

Temporary Spare Tire Model

Temporary spare tires offer a limited, temporary performance for a vehicle they are mounted on. These tires do not perform as full-sized spare tires due to their lightweight construction.

The Spare T121 is a compact spare tire, ensuring a safer limited performance. This model provides a temporary solution in case one of the vehicle’s tires experience a puncture, accident or blowout. In such situations, this model offers a temporary mobility up to 50 mph if the correct 60 psi cold tire inflation is maintained. If the correct inflation is maintained during the tire’s performance, it provides a secure driving experience.

As all temporary spare tires, the Spare T121 features a smaller physical side and it was manufactured with a lightweight structure. This minimizes the space the tire takes up in storage, making it perfect for smaller vehicles. However, due to this construction, the tire can only be used for a limited period of time. This structure is not made to withstand the vehicle’s weight for long and it does not allow the tire’s safe full speed performance.

All Season Performance

All season tires offer excellent traction in dry, wet and winter weather conditions. The detailed ribbed pattern and all season compound work together to boost the all weather performing safety.

While temporary spare tires are unable to conquer harsh weather situations, they offer excellent overall traction throughout their lifetime. The Spare T121 utilizes its tread design and all season compound to improve the year round surface gripping ability. The tread’s continuous center tib and ideal block placement improve the grip in dry, wet and winter weather conditions, with additional biting edges gripping the road surface. The compound keeps the rubber flexibility in versatile temperatures. This combination enhances the tire’s driving safety levels.

The tread design also features an optimal groove pattern. The circumferential and lateral grooves work together to channel water and slush from below the tire’s footprint. This prevents hydroplaning, which happens when said water and slush cut off the tire’s surface contact. In such cases, the tire further improves the wet and winter traction and driving safety levels.

Handling and Controllability

Tires, even spare ones, must provide excellent controllability to the vehicle they are mounted on. These tires promote excellent steering responsiveness and driving stability even though they are only temporary spare models.

The Spare T121 improves its handling. The tire has a smaller physical size and a narrow footprint, but its ribbed pattern makes up for that flaw. The tread’s continuous center rib improves the surface contact throughout the drive, which boosts the steering responsiveness and the driving stability significantly. In this manner, the steering becomes faster and more precise in its response to the driver’s commands, while the structure is stabilized against the driving pressure affecting the model. This enhanced controllability guarantees the driver’s control over the vehicle during its performance in various weather conditions. As a result, this temporary spare tire increases the year round performing capability.
