Goodyear Convenience Spare Nylon Review

Agota Szabo - February 25, 2020

Temporary spare tires offer a limited temporary performance once they are mounted on a vehicle. Their lightweight structure enables them to minimize the space they take up in the vehicle’s trunk, as opposed to full-sized spare tires.

Priority Tire offers a few compact spare tires for sale. One such model is Goodyear’s Convenience Spare Nylon. This model guarantees good traction, controllability as a limited performance once they are mounted on the vehicle and have the needed internal pressure.

Temporary Spare Tire Model

Temporary, compact or convenience spare tires are designed to provide a limited performance for the vehicle they are mounted on. In other words, they are unable to perform in the same manner as regular full-sized tires can.

The Convenience Spare Nylon is one such temporary spare tire. As a compact spare tire, it features a lightweight construction and it comes in smaller physical sizes. This compact size enables the tire to be stored in the vehicle’s trunk without taking up too much space. These tires offer a limited temporary performance. They cannot be driven on for more than 50 miles and their speed limit is 50 mph. Furthermore, they must maintain their recommended psi, otherwise it will cause tire failure.

Compact spare tires are made for vehicles with limited trunk space. Their lightweight construction and smaller sizes minimize the space needed to store the tires when they are not in use, which is an excellent alternative to full sizes spare tires.

All Season Performance

Temporary spare tires are not to be used in harsh weather conditions. However, they do offer good traction during their performance.

The Convenience Spare Nylon features a detailed tread design which was molded from an all season compound. The compound keeps the rubber flexibility in versatile terrain surface conditions, while the tread’s elements increase the number of biting edges gripping the road surface. The tread’s hexagon-shaped elements and optimal tread block placement improve the grip on dry, wet and winter weather traction. While their treads are shallower than of full-sized spare models – and as a result, they should not be used in severe conditions – the tire still provides an excellent year round traction.

The tread pattern’s shallow grooves help prevent hydroplaning. The two notched circumferential and the numerous angled lateral grooves channel water and slush from below the footprint, keeping the tire’s surface contact throughout its performance. Hydroplaning happens when water and slush stuck on the road surface cuts off the tire’s surface contact during the drive, which causes the vehicle to skid as the tire loses its surface contact. By channeling water and slush from the footprint, it allows the model to improve the wet and slushy terrain surface traction.

Handling and Controllability

All tires must provide good control over the vehicle. This is also true for temporary spare tires. When mounted on a vehicle, compact spare tires can be driven on for about 50 miles, which is as much as their lightweight construction enables.

The Convenience Spare Nylon upgrades its handling with better surface contact. The tread’s shallow tread depth allows a flat footprint which closely follows the road surface throughout the model’s performance. This enables the model to boost the steering responsiveness and the driving stability. As a result, the steering it provides is fast and precise, while the structure is secured against the driving pressure. This combination ensures the driver’s full control over the vehicle during its performance.
