When it comes to long distance trips, driving comfort is one of the main aspects that need to be considered. For this reason, purchasing good quality touring tires is of the utmost importance. These tires ensure great driving comfort, while firmly gripping the road surface to improve the year round traction.

A wide range of touring tires can be found on Priority Tire, but we have selected one of our best-sellers to present to you in this blog post – the Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring.

This model guarantees first-rate all weather traction, excellent driving comfort, a longer lasting tread life and an improved handling that work together to guarantee the CS5 Ultra Touring’s exceptional performance.

ALL WEATHER PERFORMANCE

All season tires are the most popular models currently on the tire market. They provide a safer driving experience throughout the year and having one set of all season tires is less expensive than having to change sets in accordance with the seasons (summer vs winter tires). They feature tread designs that firmly grips the road surface year round to ensure a secure performance.

The CS5 Ultra Touring was manufactured with an asymmetric tread design. The inner tread area features a higher density full depth 3D micro-gauge siping detail that enhances the number of biting edges that grip the road surface in wet and winter weather. The tread’s outer area, sports a lower siping detail that increases the tire’s road contact area, which improves the dry weather performance. To further upgrade the all weather traction, the rubber features high levels of Silica which maintains its flexibility even in colder temperatures.

Hydroplaning is a dangerous road hazard as the water and slush prevent the tire’s road contact and make the vehicle uncontrollable. The tire’s tread design also manages to prevent this sort of danger. Its wide circumferential and smaller lateral grooves actively channel water and slush away from the tire’s footprint, maintaining road contact and effectively preventing hydroplaning to ensure a safer performing capability.

HANDLING AND CONTROLLABILITY

Cooper utilized its StabiliEdge Performance technology to improve the tire’s controllability. Its independent tread blocks and interlocking tread elements are stabilized during the drive. The StabiliEdge technology lowers the possibility of tread flexing, which enhances the steering responsiveness and driving stability. In other words, the steering is faster and more responsive to the driver’s commands, while the structure is stabilized against the driving pressure affecting the tire.

The CS5 Ultra Touring features a wider outer shoulder design that lowers the void area on the tread. This, along with the optimized tread blocks, upgrades the cornering capability. It heightens the number of biting edges that grip the road surface during cornering to ensure a safer maneuvering capability. Even at higher speeds, this allows exceptional controllability and makes it more responsive to the driving instructions.

LENGTHENED USABILITY

Cooper offers a 50-70,000 mile warranty with this model. In other words, the H and V speed rated sizes receive a 70,000 mile treadwear warranty, while the high speed W rated sizes come with a 50,000 mile warranty.

The CS5 Ultra Touring was manufactured with high silica levels in its compound. The silica increases the tire’s traction and eases the driving pressure off the tire. This effectively slows the tread wear rate down significantly and guarantees a longer lasting tread life.

The asymmetric tread design’s constant road contact manages to evenly distribute the driving pressure along the tread area. The equally spread out forces of acceleration, cornering and braking lengthen the tread life and the tire’s usability by preventing irregular tread wear formations across the tread area. The slower even tread wear lengthens the tread life and the tire’s usability significantly, making the model more cost efficient.

The model also features Cooper’s Wear Square Indicators on its tread. These are located on the tire’s shoulders and visually represent the tread wear rate as they wear out with the tread. The two parallel squares on the two shoulders represent whether the tread wear is even or not. If their wear is identical, the tire is wearing out evenly. However, if there is a difference between them, it means that the vehicle’s alignment needs to be checked and fixed before the tires develop an uneven wear pattern.

COMFORTABLE DRIVE

Comfort is especially important with long-distance performance. The tire’s maintained optimal road contact manages to lower the road vibration levels felt in the vehicle’s cabin. This is achieved with the special computer-optimized R-Tech sidewall that features extended bead fillers. This prevents the tire’s deformation under the driving pressure and enables the tire to closely follow the road surface. In this manner, the tire decreases the road vibrations felt while the tires are in motion.
