Continental CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus Review

Agota Szabo - September 4, 2019

Touring, all season tires are the most desired tire models on the market. They provide exceptional all weather traction and high driving comfort levels throughout their performance, while also ensuring a safer driving experience and controllability. Manufacturers strive to ensure high traction and driving safety with their models as demands for such aspects keeps increasing.

We at Priority Tire have already talked about MANY different touring, all season models made for passenger vehicles and SUVs. Today we will take a look at Continental’s CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus. This enables the tire’s greatest performance in various weather, while also guaranteeing a comfortable driving experience.

This model ensures first-rate fuel efficiency and a lengthened tread life. The tire offers a 70,000 mile treadwear formations across the tread area.

All Season Performance

All season tires guarantee a safer year round performance. They enable the tire’s grip in dry, wet and winter weather conditions by combining the tread design and the all season tire compound. This ensures a safer year round performance.

The CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus was designed with a detailed symmetric pattern and the optimal blend compound. The Tg-F polymer and the +Silane additive compound keep the tire’s flexibility in various conditions, from the heat of summer to colder temperatures. The tread design’s tread block placement and detailed siping pattern work together to upgrade the grip on the road surface, which enhances the dry, wet and winter weather road grip. This combination ensures the tire’s exceptional year round performance.

The model also resists hydroplaning. The tread’s circumferential and lateral grooves help prevent hydroplaning, which is a dangerous road hazard that happens when the water and slush located on the road surface cuts off the tire’s road contact. This tread pattern channels water and slush from below the footprint and enables the tire’s road contact throughout the performance. In this manner, the tire further enhances its wet and winter weather traction.

Fuel-Efficient Performance

Continental’s EcoPlus technology upgrades the fuel efficiency with the optimized tread design and optimal compound. They enable the tire’s environmentally friendly performance in various conditions.

The EcoPlus technology eases the driving pressure off the tire with the blend compound and tread design which decreases the rolling resistance. The rolling resistance is the driving pressure affecting the model, which determines the vehicle’s needed fuel intake in order to keep the tires in motion. The lowered rolling resistance successfully reduces the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, guaranteeing a fuel and environmentally conscious driving experience.

Longer-Lasting Tread Life

A lengthened tread life is a desired feature of tires. The longer their usability is, the more cost-efficient they become. Manufacturers strive to extend the usability and tread life, as such tires are easier to sell on the tire market.

The CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus increases its usability by utilizing the special tread compound. The Tg-F polymer and +Silane additive compound is wear resistant. This, along with the tire’s lowered rolling resistance, decreases the tread wear rate. The tread’s optimal surface contact also improves the balanced pressure distribution, which actively prevents irregular wear formations across the tread area. This combination ensures the tire’s longer lasting usability and tread life.

The longer lasting even tread life and the slowed tread wear rate ensure a 70,000 mile tread life.

High Driving Comfort Levels

Touring tires ensure high driving comfort levels throughout their performance. Manufacturers optimize the tread pattern and the internal construction to decrease the road noise and vibration levels while the tires are in motion.

The CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus utilizes the driving stability and the stronger internal construction to maintain the ideal road contact. This, along with the flat footprint, enables the tire to closely follow the road surface during the driving. In this manner, the tire absorbs the shock of driving which greatly decreases the road vibrations felt in the vehicle’s cabin.

The tread pattern design, on the other hand, reduces the road noise levels heard by the passengers. The variable phase shift and the wave-style grooves work together to lower the road and tread pattern noise heard. They negate the soundwaves with a special sound-cancelling frequency which prevents road and tread pattern noise from reaching the vehicle’s cabin and dampening the passenger’s driving enjoyment.

Enhanced Controllability

Tires improve their controllability with their optimized road surface contact. Their tread design upgrades the steering responsiveness and driving stability and increases the driver’s control over the vehicle.

The CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus was designed with a flat footprint that maintains its road contact throughout the drive. The tread’s continuous center rib and tread block placement enable the tire to improve the steering and driving stability. This allows the tire to enhance the steering responsiveness and accuracy to the driver’s instructions, while the structure is stabilized against the driving pressure affecting the model. This allows the driver to confidently maneuver the vehicle as it upgrades the maneuvering ability as well.

The tread design’s larger shoulder tread block placement with the siping detail enhances the cornering ability and power. This enables the tire to upgrade the number of biting edges gripping the road surface throughout the year, ensuring a secure cornering and maneuvering capability. The detailed siping detail improves the braking ability. These sipes help create friction between the tire and the road surface throughout the tire’s performance. In this manner, the tire boosts the braking power and significantly decreases the braking distance.
