BF Goodrich Advantage T/A Sport Review

Agota Szabo - August 8, 2018

The Advantage T/A Sport is a performance-oriented all-season touring tire that BFGoodrich has worked steadily to improve—and the company has made the tire better in ways that become obvious once you drive it.

Quick Review

  • Season: All Season
  • Type: Touring
  • Car Type: Passenger
  • Run Flat: NO
  • In Stock: Yes (Check Price)

Durability also is a hallmark of this line, and Goodyear’s tread life warranty reflects that. Depending on the size and the speed rating, an Advantage T/A Sport carries a warranty of 60,000 or 65,000 miles—very good in this class.

Advantage Sport T/A tires come in several speed ratings:

  • T, up to 118 mph
  • H, up to 130 mph
  • V, up to 149 mph

The T-rated tires carry the higher treadwear warranty of 65,000 miles. It’s the H- and V-rated version, however, that get a buyer’s pulse soaring, and they still are warranted for above-average tread life.

Improved Performance

BFGoodrich is now owned by Michelin, and the Michelin tradition of quality shines through in the Advantage T/A Sport.

The newest generation is better on dry pavement, in wet weather and on light snow, according to BFGoodrich testing. The company pins the improvement in wet braking at 12 percent, compared to previous Advantage T/A Sport designs. Traction in snow is up 15 percent. Dry-road grip also is 15 percent better than in earlier versions.

Longer-Lasting Traction

It’s one thing to make a tire perform when it’s new and the tread is at its deepest. BFGoodrich did something very important to make sure that grip remains as the tire wears: Advantage T/A Sport tread features are molded into the full depth of the tread, not just the top half or three-quarters.

On many other tires, the grooves that define blocks and the sipes that make the tire stick to the road in any weather disappear as the tire wears. The Advantage T/A Sport is different. Those features remain as the tire ages because they go the complete depth of the tread. Even when tread approaches replacement depth, traction is generated because the tread features remain.

On-Road Performance

Traction and control are strong. The Advantage T/A Sport tracks true and tames curves without protest because it’s so stable. It has a slightly wavy, continuous central rib that elevates response. When wheel direction changes, that central rib acts without hesitation, providing stability and control. That center rib is also heavily siped on both edges, creating extra bite.

The shoulders have blocks that are unusually wide, boosting cornering capability and stability, and reducing wear. Wide lateral grooves and circumferential channels drain water away from the contact patch, maintaining traction. Along with the ample siping, they make this tire an excellent rain performer.

Advantage T/A Fitments

PTO stocks the Advantage T/A Sport in 16-inch, 17-inch and 18-inch sizes. The tire works well with a wide range of vehicles, including coupes, sedans, minivans, crossovers and SUVs.

Other Advantage T/A Sport Features:

  • Quiet ride. The variable pitch of the tread is computer-optimized to reduce noise at high speeds.
  • Stabilized sidewall. BFGoodrich’s G-Wedge technology increases sidewall stability for better control without sacrificing ride quality.
  • Silica-based tread. Silica improves grip in any weather and is especially beneficial on wet and snowy roads. Here’s a bonus: Tires with silica wear better.
  • All weather traction
  • Longer lasting tread life
  • Full-depth tread features
  • High speed stability
