OVERVIEW
The Continental WinterContact SI is a performance, winter weather tire manufactured for passenger vehicles and SUVs. This model has some touring sizes available as well. The SI in its model name stands for Snow and Ice as it provides exceptional safety and performing ability in those conditions.
The tire is a superb winter weather tire as it maintains its traction in colder temperatures and on ice- and snow-covered surfaces. The +Silane additive in the tire compound maintains tread flexibility, even in lower temperatures, which improves the winter weather traction. The tread design's multi-angles zigzag sipes and traction tread grooves increase its road gripping ability in wet and winter conditions, especially in snow covered conditions. The circumferential and lateral tread grooves prevent hydroplaning by eliminating water and slush from below the tire footprint. The model is marked with the three mountain and snowflake symbol, which is the tire industry's notation for tires that are capable of handling extreme winter weather.
The tread pattern improves the tire's braking ability and its handling. The PolarPlus technology shortens the braking distance on ice- and snow-covered roads by providing additional biting edges in those situations. The model's handling was also improved by the tread design. The directional tread pattern upgrades the steering responsiveness and accuracy and boosts the driving stability. The tread maintains constant road contact which makes the tire's response to the driver's instructions quicker and more accurate. The maintained road contact also prevents deformation of the tire's shape, stabilizing the winter weather drive. The safer braking ability and better handling allow the driver to confidently control the tire in all winter weather conditions.
The WinterContact SI features winter tread wear indicators that show when the tire is about to lose its excellent traction. When the tread wears down to 50%, these indicators show on the tread that the tire is close to losing its winter weather traction, which enables the driver to change their tires in time.
